Privacy Policy

What we collect, why we collect it, and what we will never do with it. Plain language, no legal padding.

Ontario Webs (“we”, “us”) is a one-person web studio based in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, operating the website ontariowebs.ca. This policy explains how we handle personal information when you contact us, request a quote, or browse the site — including when you arrive from a Facebook or Instagram ad.

We use the information you send us only to reply to you about your website project. We do not sell it, rent it, or share it with third parties for their own marketing.

Who is responsible for your information

Ontario Webs is the organisation responsible for the personal information described here. If you have a question about this policy or about your information, email contact@ontariowebs.ca or call 438-223-4016.

What we collect

Information you give us

When you fill in the contact or quote form, or message us by email, phone, or WhatsApp, we receive:

  • Your name
  • Your email address
  • Your phone number, if you choose to give it
  • Whatever you write in the message, including details about your business or project
  • The plan you clicked on, if you came from a pricing button

Only name, email, and message are required. Everything else is optional.

Information collected automatically

  • Technical data with your enquiry. When a form is submitted, our server records the IP address it came from and the date and time. This is used to block spam and abusive submissions, and it is included in the enquiry email we receive.
  • Hosting logs. Our web host keeps standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested, timestamps) as part of running and securing the site.
  • Meta Pixel. The site runs the Meta (Facebook) Pixel so we can measure our advertising. See the section below.

Advertising: the Meta Pixel and Facebook & Instagram ads

We advertise on Facebook and Instagram. To understand whether those ads work, this website includes the Meta Pixel, a small piece of code provided by Meta Platforms, Inc.

The Pixel sets cookies and sends Meta information such as the pages you viewed on our site, your IP address, your browser and device type, and whether you took an action like submitting the quote form. Meta uses this to report on ad performance and to help us reach people with similar interests. It is used for:

  • Measuring how many people who saw an ad went on to contact us
  • Showing our ads again to people who visited the site (retargeting)
  • Building audiences of people similar to our visitors

Meta acts as an independent controller of the data it receives through the Pixel and processes it under its own terms. You can review and change how Meta uses your data:

You can also block the Pixel entirely by refusing cookies in your browser settings or by using a tracker-blocking extension. The site works normally without it.

Cookies

We do not use cookies for logins, profiles, or shopping carts. The only cookies set on this site come from the Meta Pixel described above. Your browser lets you block or delete cookies at any time — nothing on this site will break if you do.

Why we use your information

  • To reply to you. Answering your question, preparing a quote, and discussing your project.
  • To deliver work you hire us for. Building, launching, and maintaining your website.
  • To keep records. Quotes, invoices, and correspondence, as required for normal business and tax purposes.
  • To protect the site. Blocking spam, abuse, and attacks.
  • To measure our advertising. As described in the Meta Pixel section.

We do not send marketing newsletters, and we do not add you to a mailing list because you asked for a quote.

Who we share it with

We do not sell or rent personal information. We share it only with the service providers needed to run the business, and only for that purpose:

  • Hostinger — website and email hosting, where the site and enquiry emails live.
  • Meta Platforms, Inc. — advertising measurement, as described above.
  • Our email provider — delivering and storing the messages you send us.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to establish or defend a legal claim.

Where your information is stored

Our hosting and email providers, and Meta, may store or process data on servers outside Canada, including in the United States and the European Union. Information held in another country may be accessible to the courts and authorities of that country under its own laws.

How long we keep it

  • Enquiries that do not become projects: kept for up to 24 months, then deleted.
  • Client records (contracts, invoices, project correspondence): kept for at least 7 years, as required for Canadian tax and business records.
  • Spam-prevention records: a short-lived, hashed record of the submitting IP address, discarded within hours.
  • Server logs: kept by our host on their standard schedule, typically a few weeks.

How we protect it

The site is served over HTTPS. Access to the hosting account and mailbox is restricted and protected by strong, unique credentials and two-factor authentication where available. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, so please don't send sensitive information such as passwords, banking details, or identity documents through the contact form.

Your rights

Under Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), you may:

  • Ask what personal information we hold about you and get a copy of it
  • Ask us to correct anything inaccurate
  • Ask us to delete your information, where we are not required to keep it
  • Withdraw your consent to being contacted at any time
  • Complain to us, or to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada

Email contact@ontariowebs.ca and we will respond within 30 days. There is no charge for a reasonable request.

Children

This site is aimed at business owners. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has sent us information, email us and we will delete it.

Links to other sites

Our portfolio links to websites we've built for clients, and to third-party services. Once you leave ontariowebs.ca, this policy no longer applies — those sites have their own privacy practices.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle personal information, we'll update this page and change the “last updated” date at the top. Material changes will be described here rather than made quietly.
